Here are thumbnail images and
summaries of projects I've completed, arranged chronologically. Click on the

First Pieces
(1996-1997)
"MBNMS" (lead)

This was the first project I ever did other than some
goofing around when I was a kid - none of it preserved (or worth
preserving - especially the solder "splat jewelry"). It was
the product of my first set of classes at Cradle of the Sun in San
Francisco. It is supposed to represent the Monterey Bay National
Marine Sanctuary. I was inspired by a special chart that NOAA issued on
the establishment of the Sanctuary - it is beautiful, and if I can find
an image of it I'll post it here - and maybe someday make a window that
will do it (and the Sanctuary) justice. Currently hanging in a
window on the roof deck, adjacent to the weather station.
"Artichoke" (lead)

One of my favorite pieces - designed by Nina, executed by
me. It currently hangs over our kitchen sink.
"Abstract" (foil)

Really a study in several areas - my first foil (rather than
lead came) piece. It also was my own exploration of light playing
on different types of glass - seedy clear and colored, different
textures in the glass as well as different colors. The shape was
not square, with the overall shape oval and no real "right" way of
viewing it.
"SkyLamp" (foil)

For my final project at
Cradle of the Sun, I wanted to get
experience with 3D works. I had been inspired by a "dome" over
the hot tub at Sweetwater
Gardens in Mendocino, but a simple flat-panel lamp was more
practical. It is
supposed to represent the sky - with the horizon around the
bottom. You may recognize several attempts to capture the
silhouette of Mount
Tamalpais (as seen from Sausalito).
Early purpose built
(1997-2000)
"Pineapple" (lead)

Made as a wedding gift for my best friend. Pineapple as a
symbol of welcome and good luck.
"SEA" (lead)

The logo of Sailing Education Adventures (SEA) a non profit community sailing
group in San
Francisco, rendered to be the same size as a panel of the windows in
their offices at Fort Mason. Don't think it was ever installed in
the window.
Seattle
(2000-2003)
"frontlamp" (foil)
Made to replace the ugly plain glass panels in the lamp in front
of my Seattle home.
Basement entrance
"Alki" (lead)

Made as part of the replacement of the shelter for the entry to
the basement of my Seattle home. The panel is a representation of
the location of the house - the outline of Elliot Bay where it opens to
Puget Sound. The off center "cross hairs" are the latitude and
longitude of the house. This and "Tree" were designed to be seen
through one to the other - a couple of the photos try to show this.
"Tree" (lead)

Made as part of
the replacement of the shelter for the entry to the basement of my
Seattle home along with "Alki".
Baltimore (2004- )
"1528" (lead)

Leaded glass street numbers over
the front door - as
every good Baltimore rowhouse should have.
I took progress photos as the glass was being laid up.
"votive holder" (foil)
[no image]
Playing with ideas for small but useful objects to make for
pracice and as gifts. Four sided foiled panels and a mirror base
- place the votive candle inside and enjoy on the roof deck while
listening to an Orioles game on the radio.
"circleofskwerls"
(lead)

Initially started
out as a set of interlocking circles, from very basic Islamic
designs.
Decided to add something to the center of the design, and running
squirrels got into my brain and haven't left yet (as you can see with
the neon project I've also done)...
"Hatteras" (foil and lead)

The design
is based on the nautical chart for the area around
Cape
Hatteras, North Carolina. Designed to fit a window at my parent's
place in Avon, NC where it was installed Easter weekend 2005.
Ideas
and works in progress
- Another window for the Avon house
- Baltimore oriole
- Some nifty sunset photos I have
- craftsman lamp
- A lamp or other piece made of or incorporating various pieces of
seaglass I've collected
- Designes based on some maps I've created with GIS
- More designs based on nautical charts and otehr maps
- Various abstract ideas
Links:
- Cradle of the Sun
(San Francisco) - this is where I took my first classes in working with
glass. Dan Gamaldi is an experienced and patient teacher.
His store has lots of great materials and is conveniently located in
Noe
Valley next door to the Dubliner.
- Glass Expressions
(Burien, WA) - source of supplies near Seattle.
- The Glass Eye
(Cape
Cod) - Owned by a family friend, this place was my inspiration to get
involved in doing glass when I was young.
